Christmas Tree

Cotton worsted yarn (I used Peaches & Cream Cotton yarn,
color "Christmas Green" for this cloth)
Size 8 (US) knitting needles. My finished cloth: 7 ½" wide x 9" long.

Instructions: Cast on 35
Rows 1-6: Knit (K) each row
Rows 7-19: Stockingette stitch (knit one row, purl the next for 12 rows, knitting the first 4 stitches & last 4 stitches of each row for side border.
Tree design begins with Row 20, RS (right side) of work.
Design stitches to be worked in Purl (P) on RS of work.
Row 20: K4, K12, P3, K12, K4
Row 21: K4, Purl across, K4
Row 22: K4, K12, P3, K12, K4
Row 23: K4, Purl across, K4
Row 24: K4, K3, P21, K3, K4
Row 25: K4, Purl across, K4
Row 26: K4, K4, P19,K4, K4
Row 27: K4, Purl across, K4
Row 28: K4, K5, P17,K5, K4
Row 29: K4, Purl across, K4
Row 30: K4, K6, P15, K6, K4
Row 31: K4, Purl across, K4
Row 32: K4, K7, P13, K7, K4
Row 33: K4, Purl across, K4
Row 34: K4, K8, P11, K8, K4
Row 35: K4, Purl across, K4
Row 36: K4, K9, P9, K9, K4
Row 37: K4, Purl across, K4
Row 38: K4, K10, P7, K10, K4

Rows 45-55: 10 rows Stockingette stitch
(knit one row, purl the next) being sure to knit the first 4 & last 4 stitches of each row for side border.
Row 56-63: Knit each of the next 8 rows, binding off as you knit the 8th row (R63).

Sew in ends, add a cute felt star or loosely add a jingle bell (instead of a star, to be removed before dishwashing) and you're all set. Happy Holidays!
